Additionally, some of NOAA's very high resolution convective-resolving models (designed specifically for this purpose) were the ones that best predicted this incipient disaster. Yet these very same models are on the chopping block this year with the proposed NOAA budget.

Predicting such storms is at the cutting edge of science right now, and the stakes are rising in a warming world in which they are intensifying. Yet this is precisely the kind of research that NOAA/NSF have funded in the U.S. over decades that is at imminent risk of disappearing.

She put the Elantra out of its misery by hitting a rock and putting a hole in the transmission. Maybe on purpose??? Anyways, we replaced it with a 2016 Corolla with only 65K miles.

Nothing but problems with my daughter's 18 Elantra. Paint peeling, engine starting problems (ECM replaced), catalytic converter issues, and the stupid ignition switch security problem. I guess we should be happy that the engine hasn't let go. It never ends.

Of note is the full complement of Mexican upper air stations seen above. Historically, Mexico struggled with the reliability of its sounding network. Over the last few years, there has been a vast improvement, and now, it is the United States that is struggling to regularly launch balloons. #azwx

You got Simena'ed.

Pennsylvania is getting Sinema'ed. We here in AZ got rid of her. Pennsylvania needs to do the same with your turd.

We here in the SW are screwed. The fire season is going to be horrific.

I personally know 3 people on the chopping block. Two have over 30 years of experience and had just changed positions. One left NOAA for NCAR and he said his NOAA replacement was let go since it was a recent promoted to fill the vacant position. He had over 30 years as well. Insanity.

The now-confirmed and rumored additional cuts to come at NOAA/NWS are spectacularly short-sighted, and ultimately will deal a major self-inflicted wound to the public safety of Americans and the resiliency of the American economy to weather and climate-related disasters.
