Text of a letter to the editor: Albo and the Lorax Reading the report on the new Federal environment laws (News, 29/11), I was struck by a comment by the Prime Minister, who said the new laws "mean more investment, more jobs, more housing and more infrastructure". The Prime Minister's comment reminded me of a line in Dr Seuss' The Lorax, which tells the story of a greedy businessman who keeps cutting down trees so that he can "bigger his factory, bigger his roads, bigger his wagons, and bigger his loads" until, after cutting down the last tree, there's nothing left and his business collapses. The Lorax was written back in 1971 and today governments around the world are still fixated on growth at any cost - even though it always leads to some form of collapse. When will we learn?
