Brave's search AI is sensitive to the order of words in a query:

what is the iqtree2 -p option = Success
what is the -p option in iqtree2 = Fail

Of possible note - the order of words that worked is similar to the order of words on the command line / in code.

If you're into evolution and genomics, the EcoEvo Genomics GRC this summer is promising to be really good.

And I'm not just saying this because I'm speaking at it!

I spent some time cleaning up my repo demonstrating how to use the NCBI Datasets REST API to do automated and/or bulk retrieval of genomes, by accession or by taxonomy. It's not super well documented but it does all seem to work :). Enjoy!

Dendraster excentricus 1-day juvenile - with adult sand used to induce metamorphosis from a swimming pluteus larva yesterday.

Tube feet for walking and spines for protection - speed is 4x.

Sand dollars and sea urchins are closely-related - you can see it in the young juveniles.

Echinoderm echinoid Dendraster excentricus sand dollars!

11-day old larvae competent for settlement and metamorphosis - and mid-metamorphosis juveniles with larval arms still present - and skeletal rods poking out!

I was pipetting them and they stuck themselves to the glass with their tube feet.

Pteropod gastropod mollusc - the sea angel Clione limacina!

Collected off the UW FHL docks today. A tiny one - slightly bigger than a grain of rice.

Imaging on a microscope is tough - lighting and movement are challenges - need to develop a rig for swimming zooplankton / small pelagic animals!

Support for the deuterostome clade comes from systematic errors
There is a long-standing consensus that the animal phyla closest to our own phylum of Chordata are the Echinodermata and Hemichordata. These three phyla constitute the major clade of Deuterostomia. Re...

Crustacean larva!

Scooped up off the floating dock at UW FHL marine field station today.

So much structural engineering. Great transparency!

1-2 inches ? It collapsed the legs to form a trailing tail when swimming - little nubbin body at the front.
