The DotL fan sever has been speaking using the language of the children of Tama, using memes as our metaphors and I can’t describe how happy it makes me to 1) finally understand the Star Trek episode on a functional level and 2) have a conversation that is silly for the sake of being silly.

This makes me as mad as the "never shade with black and only use these colors to shade these specific colors" art "advice" that still circles around Tumblr. Literally fuming. Stop trying to police how people draw. Let a person explore, let a person decide what is or isn't good for their process.

That sounds absolutely mental to me that people would say having feathery lines means a lack of confidence. Fuck all the way off with that shit. If your progress can be understood and your intent conveyed, who cares *how* the person draws it?

It's like saying, "oh, I'm not going to use paint for this piece, I'm going to do it in charcoal. It's easier." Like bro... using charcoal is not "easier" than painting. More accessible, yes, but not easier. Both can be used to make amazing things, they're just different mediums.

Ya still have to control your values, your focal points, decide on things like texture, hatching, black fill, if you're going to use screentones. AND line weight and shape language tend to matter more bc you're usually using less tools to direct the eye and communicate the narrative.

It's just two different skill sets. The keyword here being "skill". B&W doesn't mean you just don't put in color. Anyone who actually puts thought into the actual process of making a B&W comic knows it can be just as much work as color comics.

IE a very long tub soak while nomming chocolate and watching a movie you like. Painting your nails and being a lil extra with them. An entire day off to have a picnic/go to a local event/museum/other free thing that costs time rather than money

I have no self control when it comes to stuff like that =.= maybe something like a stay at home spa day. Not to be confused with self-care cuz that shouldn’t be a reward/punishment. Just some over the top indulgent thing you can do for yourself at home?

The most significant thing that happens is a button gets ripped off a sleeve and it’s a through line till like… chapter 10. I feel like I’m throttling an empty engine trying to think about how to salvage this.
