San Antonio native and conjunto legend Flaco Jiménez has died at the age of 86. Jiménez's family posted on Facebook late Thursday night that he died following a long illness at his son's home "surrounded by loved ones and will be missed immensely."

I was commissioned by LA Times Image to write a poem about Los Angeles, the fires and our devotion to each other. Grateful to do so. I cannot write our city enough love poems.

Nikki Giovanni’s selected poems was the first poetry book I ever checked out from a library and brought home. The first woman I could look at and say “she made the poems work.”
