Alternatives to Preaching for Thanksgiving Eve

Help! My congregation has a tradition of doing a Thanksgiving Eve service. I have so many things on my to-do list. What can I do instead?

Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ate with sinners like us. He taught us that we must embrace the poor and the outcast, and align ourselves with the tormented and troublemakers of history. Jesus noticed the ones who did not quite fit, and welcomed them in. Jesus noticed the ones who fit too well, and called them to account.

Singing the Story

In 2025, when misinformation, revisionist history, and denial of systemic injustice are rampant, Habakkuk reminds us that God does not call us to remember the past for nostalgia, but for truth-telling.

Why YCWI? Benefits of Membership

In January when the Board was doing its big push to encourage everyone to officially renew their YCWI membership, someone emailed and asked me, “What are the benefits of joining YCWI?”

Tears of Joy for Archbishop Sarah Mullally

On Friday 3rd October 2025, I wept so many more tears of joy than words can express because God calls different people into relationship with Jesus, and to respond to that call in different ways.

And I Mean to Be One Too: Saints for Young Clergy Women

On this All Saints' Day may you celebrate those saints--- living and dead, in your immediate community and in the public square--- who bear witness to the presence of God at work in the world.

Expanding Our View

In the waiting, we are stretched to see beyond our narrow interests and into God’s wider vision– a vision that is “utterly amazing” and nearly unbelievable, but one that always bends toward justice and hope.

The Sacred Practice of Lament

Lament is not a weakness of faith; it is the evidence of faith. It is the courage to hold God accountable to God’s own promises.

Taking Up My Space
It may be hard to take up my space fully because of all the cultural messages handed down to women about leadership and how we are to show up in the world. Perhaps it is the internalization of the message that Christians should be “nice” and that we should put others before ourselves. Whatever combination of these beliefs may be, it prevented me from living fully.

Why October 1st? Why “Fidelia Day”?

After doing some digging, the Board uncovered that youngclergywomen.org was first released on October 1st, 2007. This was the unofficial launch of YCWI, which started with the Fidelia Sisters magazine publication (still going strong as Fidelia today!).
