The Sound of Science: A Special concert at the ESRF
One year ago, Paganini’s favourite and renowned violin, Il Cannone, was brought to the ESRF for an exceptional scan on BM18.

To celebrate the anniversary of this analysis, Maestro Luca Fanfoni performed a stunning concert for ESRF staff.

#.Outreach activities: Laurence Bouchenoire took part in a Jobs & Careers Forum organised by a local secondary school.

After a presentation of her career pathway, she described her job as a Beamline Scientist at XMaS/BM28 @esrf.fr . Inspiration for both ♂️ and ♀️.

A group from Glasgow University Chemistry & UCL Chemistry combined the Ce L3, Ce K and Zr K edges #XAS with #XRD during oxygen storage testing. Complicated setup but very successful experiment!!! 🍀👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Scientists from #IMEC 🇧🇪 used XMaS/BM28 to explore doping in semiconductors with XANES at the Phosphorus edge (2.15 keV). Working along the semiconductor roadmap for 3D CMOS architectures…

XMaS Users meeting at the University of Warwick 🇬🇧.

A big 🙏 to all our speakers who gave very nice presentations of their work carried out on the beamline. A 👍 day to discuss potential experiments with people who never used XMaS before and to foster new collaborations between groups.

XMaS is an acronym standing for ‘X-ray Materials Science’.

In the old days, it stood for ‘X-ray Magnetic Scattering’. 🧲

The next few posts will be a summary of what has happened on the XMaS beamline since the beginning of 2025... Stay tuned!
