Once you are six months in and you find out people do not like your game, it becomes much more difficult to go back to the drawing board.
I cannot emphasize how much early playtests will benefit your project. Not six months in, six weeks in. Before your vertical slice. Even if you would dismiss the feedback, it'll still have forced you to develop your early features horizontally, & it'll force you to really think about communication.
