mentally I'm about to have my second beer after getting out of the onsen; physically I'm being used as a climbing frame by a toddler
realistically, if I'm not regularly listening to new music at age 38 I'm not likely to ever again. that said, it is comet gain season

I don't think the person in my neighborhood understands how ominous it is to see a car coming at you that has, on every surface, the phrase GET READY TO MEET JESUS

dublin is great except for the number of locals who, with great pity in their voices, tell me I must move here. I know the UK is fucked! I know my beautiful innocent child will be English if I take no action! my god

So excited to be in Dublin next week and sleep when I want to and be my own person for a few days, for the low low price of delivering a translation workshop and talking about myself for like 45 minutes. Four days' accommodation for three hours of work! The dream!

there are far more what I would term "emperor novels" in Japan (those dealing with the role in political/historical/symbolic terms) than in Britain... by comparison the monarchy hardly seems a matter of interest to modern British writers. what's up with that, man

I recommend One Battle After Another but I must warn you, do not go if you're slightly hungover. Truly thought I was going to lose it during the dips

"It just could not happen in Britain" is a phrase that maybe the whole country ought to meditate on for a good long time

experienced an odd error w/ this app: every time I tried to do anything, it opened a youtube of Kate Bush doing Running Up That Hill on Wogan. brought back fond memories of the era in college when my computer would, at random times, play Big Pimpin'. loved to be big pimpin' in my syntax lectures

middle-class English people really need to take the "stop saying everything you don't like is American" challenge. there's a place with a troubling obsession with flags much closer to home

neverending craving for shikuwasa (citrus depressa) has created two wolves inside me: get my boss to bring me fresh shikuwasa from Japan in the hopes of growing some trees from seed and having fruit in 5-10 years, or just embracing the close-enough calamondin instead

I don't think you should be allowed to label food items as "limited edition" unless you're also willing to number them.
