To start the week off, I’m going to clarify what I mean when I say AI.

In my content this week, I’ll be referring to generative AI tools. You probably know what they are.

Discussion of AI and books has been everywhere in the book community in the last week or so because a big company stole published works and fed them to a massive large language model system.

The author-editor relationship should be judgment free, open, and trusting.

It shouldn’t be and editor yelling at an author and pushing to make changes because the editor wants to see them.

I offer line and copy editing services for authors.

I offer both because I can’t seem to stop my brain from looking at readability, flow, and sentence structure at the same time that I see typos, spelling mistakes, and punctuation issues.

For readers and authors alike, reading is a powerful activity, and an important one. There are many options for those who want to read more often, and often the choices that readers make in terms of the material they read can make big impacts in their lives.

Twelve years ago yesterday, I was fired from my ast full-time newspaper job. I was told one thing, unemployment something different.

Yesterday I had a chat with an author who is looking for a line edit on her current WIP and she said she’s interested and didn’t blink at my pricing.

Life is good.

This is what’s making me happy today.

I opened the box before the day went all stressful, so it wasn’t quite as comforting as it could have been.

But I’m always a fan of restocking my physical TBR and taking items out of the lists that make up my TBR.

You probably have questions about sending your work over to an editor, especially if that person is one you haven’t worked with before, or you’re brand new to working with an editor.

I mean random questions that might pop into your head as you imagine what happens when an editor is editing.

These are my friends, fabulous authors. Mike wants to get cochlear implants - and he and Diana could use some help with that.

Ever have a client whose work just grabs you and doesn’t let go?

I just read the first five chapters of a former client’s new book, and saw myself in it. Felt the feelings, all that.

Now that Christmas and New Year’s Eve are over, as well as the sickness that kicked my butt from 12/30-1/8, and that lingering cough is finally letting up, I’m thinking about what I’d enjoy in 2025, and as far as work goes, the image is spot on.

Hi! I'm April!

I'm a line editor, proofreader, and content writer with an adorable schnoodle named Millie.

I have edited two newspapers and I wrote at three as a reporter for about a decade. I knew I wanted to be a newspaper reporter in sixth grade when I discovered the high school newspaper.
