I have tripped on ~nothing~ many times, but here's how I broke my first bone: I'd taken a bath with oils once so I was a wee bit slippery. My foot got caught while I was putting on my jammies, and in an effort to free it I slipped and slammed my toes straight into the floor, breaking a toe.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

I'm still not ready to get another cat, but I did go look at adoptable cats yesterday to get my fluffy fix. 😸

It's Monday! We're back!

I'm continuing on with the developmental edit I started in December, looking forward to a couple of coaching calls, and dipping into a picture book manuscript I received at the end of the year.

How are we all feeling at the start of 2026?

✨ Friday Tip ✨

Trying to navigate and budget for your 2026 goals?

If an editor (or cover designer, illustrator, book formatter, etc.) seems out of your price range, don't give up!

Ask if they have another service that you could benefit from, or if they provide a "light" version of . . . ⬇️

Dear Writer,

It’s a new year, a new page. Embrace what’s coming.

Still makes me laugh. May we all start the year with plenty of books to read. 💜

I hope the next decade of my life frees me from the regular fights I have with doctors over whichever major medical thing they've been neglecting. (Although at least this current one is less painful than the ~6 years~ of kidney stones—diagnosed as "just cramps"—that I had in my 20s.)

✨ 2025: A Year in Numbers ✨

Every year I try to take time to recognize what I accomplished for myself/for the business. It isn’t always easy—there are a lot of hours (usually spent working late nights) that I don’t record.

But this graphic shows a few of my 2025 stats that are easy to quantify.

"Write into what interests and fascinates you—readers can feel that energy on the other end. Your strangeness, your obsessions, the parts of you that might feel wrong are what makes your work stand out. Don’t hide your uniqueness!"

Happy Monday!

I’m writing out my 2026 wish list. So far I have:

💜 more clients writing fantasy & dystopian novels
💜 a sweet little romcom or an engaging mystery
💜 a lighter marketing/admin load
💜 a trip that lasts more than 3 days

What’s on yours?

✨ Friday Tip ✨

Publishing is still about who you know and connect with. Last week I shared how writers and editors can expand their networks through associations, which are a great way to find like-minded folks. But real connection happens when we are face to face—either in person or virtually. ⬇️

Whether you celebrate today or not, I hope you find yourself cozied up with a good book.

Merry Christmas. 💜🎄

Big, emotional scenes are only emotional for the reader if the reader knows the characters. We have to care. The good news is humans pack bond easily, so it doesn't take much work to make us care. #LianaEdits

2025 was a huge year for me.
I completed my first manuscript.
I started querying in agents in Nov.
I held my first pitch sessions with acquisition editors at Big 5 houses.
And I’m just getting started.

Huge shout-out to my amazing editor @editsinthemargins.com for keeping me going! Thank you!

While I do always intend to read the books I buy or receive, sometimes they spend a long time on the shelf before I get to them. But I do love having them all around me. 💜

Happy Monday, folks!

I’m officially starting my week off. Phew. I have some posts scheduled, but will mostly be keeping myself offline to enjoy time with friends and family. I wish you all a great holiday week with many cookies. 🍪

Settling in cozy to watch the 1994 version of Little Women (a favorite when I was little) and went into shock realizing Christian Bale was Laurie. 😮

*whispers* It's happening . . .
Yesterday, out of the blue, that man asked if he could come visit her for a few days over Christmas.

C H R I S T M A S.

If this Hallmark-level cheeseball romance does not freaking happen this year, I swear . . . !

It's basically writing itself at this point.
