Gabriel Vilardi has shown real courage here, opening up about lifelong mental health struggles in case it might help someone.

He is not alone in the NHL or in life. I hope this story helps someone too ⤵️

Jets’ Gabriel Vilardi opens up about mental health struggles: ‘You just see the negatives’

Delighted to announce the birth of a happy, healthy baby girl. Hayley and baby are both doing great.

In the very short time I've known it, fatherhood may be my favourite thing I'll ever do.

More from me in the coming days.

Gary Bettman said consolidating #NHLJets 1.0 and 2.0 records was easier said than done.

So I took all of the reasons it could be hard to The Athletic's local history buff, @downgoesbrown.bsky.social, to see what he could come up with 👀⤵️

The Winnipeg Jets records debate: Gary Bettman says it’s complicated. It shouldn’t be
Sean McIndoe weighs on the records debate around the Winnipeg Jets and shows there's a pretty simple solution.

From Chris Johnston:

New, for @theathletic.com: Mark Scheifele is holding his head high after being passed over by Team Canada -- 'I don't know what else I could have done'

Mark Scheifele holds head high despite Team Canada snub: ‘Don’t know what else I could have done’
The Jets center ranks sixth among all Canadian skaters in points per game.

Mark Scheifele scores two goals, sets up another, gets eight shots on net, gets robbed by Dennis Hildeby in the dying seconds, and exudes class in a difficult postgame interview with Ken Wiebe.

This may be Scheifele at his absolute best and it is wasted (in the immediate term, at least.)

This week might be the best Winnipeg's middle six has looked all year. This is a low bar to clear, but it's worth acknowledging in case it grows.

Meanwhile, no lead feels safe.

Winnipeg plays Toronto today, so @mirtle.bsky.social and I dug into everything that's gone wrong for #LeafsForever and #GoJetsGo this season.

There are a lot of similarities! Dig in here ⤵️

Why the Jets and Maple Leafs have both fallen off so much this season
Why are two of Canada's top teams from last season on pace for heartbreak in 2025-26?

Mark Scheifele is a first-line forward on The Athletic's Canada "B" team, as put together by @arponbasu.bsky.social:

What would Canada’s Olympic B-Team look like, and could it win a medal?
Even in the process of selecting a B-team, some very deserving and talented players are left off because of the number of options available.

The youngest player on Winnipeg's roster turns 24 years old today.

The #NHLJets average age is roughly 30.7 years old, No. 1 in the NHL.

Happy new year everyone. Wherever it finds you, I hope there's joy in it. I hope there are things to look forward to, time to spend with people that mean something to you.

And thanks for being a part of that for me.

Canada announces men’s hockey roster for 2026 Olympics: Snubs, surprises and expectations

#NHLJets Josh Morrissey makes Team Canada. Mark Scheifele does not.

Winnipeg's Mark Stone and Elkorn's Travis Sanheim make Team Canada, too.

The Jets see progress in their game, but run the risk of becoming the first team in NHL history to follow a President's Trophy win with a last place finish.

What do they need to do to win hockey games?

And when would it truly be over? ⤵️

Adam Lowry: "We believe in what the coaching staff is saying and we believe in this group that when we’re all playing the right way, when everyone in this room is going, we’re a good team."

Scott Arniel: "I can’t criticize the effort. I can't criticize the battle. The opportunities, the game plan that we threw at them against their elite players. All of those things I asked them to do, they did it ... We're not getting points and that’s the most important thing."
December 30, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Scott Arniel calls the #NHLJets' last two games the best Winnipeg has played in a long time.

"We just played a team that went to the Stanley Cup finals two years in a row and we spent an awful lot of time in their end of the rink. I think the process worked. It's us finishing."
December 30, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Winnipeg has gone 2-7-4 in December, losing nine of their last 10 games.

It's 15-18-4 on the season, at risk of becoming the fourth team in NHL history to miss the playoffs after winning the President's Trophy.

It's one point past 32nd-place Vancouver (now playing Seattle.)
December 30, 2025 at 3:11 AM
Connor Hellebuyck makes it safely to the bench on his second try and the Oilers ice it.

90 seconds for the #NHLJets to make their case.
December 30, 2025 at 3:03 AM
4:08 left in the third. 40-20 #NHLJets on the shot clock. 2-1 Oilers where it matters.
December 30, 2025 at 2:59 AM
Adam Lowry. The #NHLJets are within one.
December 30, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Also, there's this:
The Jets have 4 forwards with more points than Dylan DeMelo. They have 3 forwards averaging more than 1/2 a point per game. I'm not sure how this gets better with a line-up as bereft of skill as this one.
Oilers get two in the second. One on a giveaway, one on the power play.

Jets mostly fine, but down 0-2 and at risk of getting goalied by an .861 goaltender. Need to bury to "deserve to win." They're not so good as to overcome their utter lack of margin for error.

0-for-3 power play looms large.
December 30, 2025 at 2:28 AM
Third period on the way. Edmonton hasn't been so dominant that this game is out of reach for Winnipeg.

#NHLJets desperately need to execute, though. They're one point better than last in the NHL and are feeding Calvin Pickard's highlight reel.
