It's a tagline that conjures images of Sigourney Weaver or Angelina Jolie, locked and loaded and out for justice. So who is 2025's heroine, staring down the camera as she sets out on a quest for revenge? Get ready... for former prime minister Liz Truss. "It's time to fight for the West," Truss, still speaking very much like someone who might be spraying bullets around in the final act, told X (formerly Twitter) as she announced her newest venture, a YouTube show. But the whole show promises to rest on Truss's galactic levels of un-self-awareness. "The problem we've got in Britain," she told Solomon, is that "we have a ruling elite who just don't like their own country." There's no better way for a former prime minister to make the point than to slag the rest of us off for the benefit of Americans. Truss may need money. Although she can claim back up to £115,000 a year for costs associated with her public duties as a former prime minister, this isn't the same as a salary, and having lost her seat in Parliament, she no longer gets paid as an MP. But what she needs more is affirmation. We are all the heroes of our own narratives. Truss's political career ended in failure and humiliation at a level unmatched in modern British history. For her to still be the hero, this disaster must have been the work of some pretty special villains. "I'm going to expose the truth about what happened to me and who was behind it," Truss promised Solomon. The rest of us know what happened, of course, but one woman can never face it. This will be her story.

Given that Grok, X’s AI tool, is now posting holocaust-denial commentary on X, I’d say we should well beyond the casual-review-but-do-nothing stage of investigation and moving swiftly on to legal challenges and all govt accounts/responsible media leaving X immediately.

Letter from the Deputy Political Editor Arj Singh i@theipaper.com ECHR reform alone won't stop the boats In his "lefty lawyer previous life, Sir Keir Starmer literally wrote the book on human rights laws and how the Strasbourg court interacts with British law. But it is unlikely the author of 1998's European Human Rights Law at the time imagined he would, nearly 30 years later, be spearheading international efforts to rip up the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). As we reveal today, Starmer's Justice Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, will call for European-wide reform of the ECHR (page 6). If you think you have heard all this before - and critics like Nigel Farage will hammer this point home - it is because you have. Rishi Sunak launched an effort to collectively reform the ECHR at a European level, making a major play of his push at international summits, but it came to nothing. Starmer at least this time is pushing at an open door after the secretary-general of the Council of Europe, which oversees the convention, last week agreed it was time for reform. But Starmer needs to manage expectations and clearly articulate what is possible as there is a risk, that like Sunak before him, whatever he does on small boats will be too little for voters attracted by Reform's simple "quit the ECHR and deport all small boat migrants" message. He must also avoid the risk of ending up like David Cameron - who promised and delivered reform of the UK's relationship with the EU but saw it rejected as inadequate in the Brexit referendum. Ultimately, while ECHR reform will help with deportations, it can only be one tool in a much wider set that Starmer must wield.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.
