The difference between training an #AI model on original IP and the end use of that model is equivalent to the difference between mining ore and driving a car.

Pleased to see the Productivity Commission have now published my response to their deeply-flawed Interim Report.

Worth watching Senators Hanson-Young, Henderson and Pocock call the Productivity Commission out on the BS underpinning their Interim Report on AI and Data, based on estimates of productivity impacts for AI when they don't even know the productivity of the creative industry (2.5% of GDP). #auspol

We've got til Monday 5pm to submit to the Productivity Commission's inquiry into AI & Data. Their Interim Report recommended allowing #AI companies free rein to steal IP and exploit it. Thanks @drwaus.bsky.social for this submission template: digitalrightswatch.org.au/tools-guides...

I had such a fun weekend seeing two terrific contemporary Aussie comedies, Birthright and One More Shot, as a #MIFF double feature - then the next night celebrating my earliest Antipodean comedy hero with But Also John Clarke. Full cinemas cracking up, great stuff.

Just finished Until the Red Leaves Fall by the brilliant @alliparkerwriter.bsky.social, a moving story about storytelling, authenticity, secrets, of Australia's hideous WWII internment camps wrapped in a ripping yarn of the 1950s theatre scene. Bravo! #booksky #AussieAuthor

Went to shoot a toast to The Project in my favourite cup. Knocked it over and broke the handle off. In tribute, I guess.

Sad to hear my friends and former colleagues who found out this week that they lost their jobs with the cancellation of The Project. I was there for just over half of its 16 year lifespan, and worked with so many lovely folks with a huge range of skills and talents. Here's what it was like.

Wild to be in @nightwatchman.bsky.social two weeks in a row... this time by name. Thanks Glenn, hopefully you will quote this blurt in next week's edition and we can continue this dance in perpetuity.
Often the NW’s big surprises come from its readers.

This week a friend may have solved the mystery behind the weirdest job ad prerequisite I've seen.

And last week, another friend @wokholt.bsky.social was reunited with a joke he wrote 35 years ago.

March 29: "Does anyone believe that Anthony Albanese can form a majority government after the election?"
May 3: ALP thumping majority, Dutton loses seat.
May 20: Coalition splits, Liberals left with less than 20% of seats.
If a week is a long time in #auspol, eight is a geologic eon.
