@vivaldi.com How do I disable the editable tab titles? It is driving me nuts and I cannot find a way to disable it. Every time I try to switch tabs it enters edit mode.

Liquid Glass is Apple’s Windows ME moment. It is Windows Aero but somehow they made it worse. I am still in disbelief that they actually released this usability and accessibility nightmare.

New video time!

A whole lot of folks keep forgetting about closed captions on DVDs, and as time has marched on this means they're getting less accessible.

Here is an emerging business case for accessibility. Users are moving away from traditional search, and increasingly use LLMs to search for information. Traditional SEO is obsolete. LLMs are hungry for new human-made high quality data to ingest.

Is it just me, or are Web Component devs imitating everything wrong about React in the wild? I don’t know for sure, but I am fairly certain Web Components were never intended to contain 200 other components nested inside, like a Russian doll.

I had some free time on my hands so I modified a GeekMagic Pro display using ESPHome. Added an air quality sensor and flashed a custom firmware. It is now displaying a real time glucose reading from my Freestyle Libre sensor, a graph and an air quality gauge, and sends data back to HomeAssistant.

I am going to write an opinion paper called "psychologists should stop researching getting girls to code and research changing software cultures"
Back when the Ada initiative was a thing, we were talking at a conference and realized that most of the women software engineers we knew had significant trauma histories. We were used to being treated like shit. Women who were unwilling to be treated that way left the field! To us it felt normal.

Gave up Youtube Premium, Netflix and every single subscription, except Pandora because it is actually a good value. Got myself a DVD player. Each DVD costs about a dollar (often less), and thrift stores are chuck full of them. I am enjoying watching movies again.

Google is finally enforcing manifest v3 for extensions. Which means no more ad blockers, no more ublockorigin. I refused to update my plugins, nerdefocus and nerderegion. I don’t want to give in to Google. Just dump Chrome, unless you have not already dumped it. It is literal spyware now.

Value generation and value extraction are two vastly different things. The latter is finite, and honestly I think we are at a point where extraction reached its peak. Especially in software and it is why all software is shit nowadays. Soon we might see a collapse of this ridiculous ecosystem.

Sorry folks, but I have to vent. I f$&#g hate Jira, and pretty much anything Atlassian. Who designed this UI? It is a minefield of expanding panels, overlapping click areas and a bunch of other bullshit. Makes me yell and pound the keyboard daily. You should be ashamed of this monstrosity…
