making starhymn :3
it's a space tactics roguelike, come stop by

also i'm literally just a crow
Pinned
i have no idea what i'm doing
So i thought id be a reasonable bird and fold this function highlighted here into a local function, thinking

"this will save space!"

and it DIDN'T WORK because
for some reason, it can't find the global table Dice in a local function???? but is fine outside of it???? what????

am i insane or is lua

we're getting back to work!

i want to try composing music for starhymn. that'd be nice...
it's a little thing i'm practicing in my free time, but i'm not ENTIRELY expecting to get anywhere with it.

not... yet.

but i did finish the draft of my first song!

composing is so hard... these are my tweets for the next fifteen years...

This unit gains +2 Power.

In my quest to redesign the resource interface, i realized how similar they were to the banners from monopoly for the xbox 360.

this is a comparison that only i, as stupid as i am, would think of. so i said "fuck it, let's go all the way."

i played too much of it as a kid.
December 8, 2025 at 7:32 PM
i'll be fine on help for now! i'm not ready to make that step i don't think.
December 5, 2025 at 4:46 PM
i wonder if, one day, i'll look at artists or musicians to hire or 𝖼𝗈𝗆𝗆𝗂𝗌𝗌𝗂𝗈𝗇 for the missing pieces of this game...

fun to think about, i guess! for the distant future.

the graphics look terrible but i guess they have some rigid charm to them lmao

I wondered for weeks what was wrong with my composition to where it sounded like liquid pain before i realized

wow, maybe if i add and work with a SECOND INSTRUMENT it will sound better!
November 24, 2025 at 6:18 AM
each one gives... say, a 1% boost to the values on all units) while also letting you find units that use these exotics as currency.

i have no idea how this will work!!
but i figure it might be fun to try.
November 21, 2025 at 3:16 PM
i figured i'd add a few "exotic resources." they (kind of) take the place of StS' boss relics, offering strong direction towards one playstyle or another, and unlike regular resources, have active effects designed to help the player with specific objectives (l-crystals are one, for instance!
November 21, 2025 at 3:16 PM
games like stellaris have a ton of mid-game resources that require early-game resources to use, and i thought something like that could translate well into this game to fit with the themes of econ management!
November 21, 2025 at 3:16 PM
There's been an idea i've been thinking about for quite some time now— i adopted the idea of having several resource currencies to mimic the tell of a 4x strategy game, but i wondered about going one step further?

So this unit was not initially designed around upgrades,
November 18, 2025 at 8:53 PM
composing is hard... ;v;
November 18, 2025 at 2:32 AM
the upgrade system works great! but there is nothing i love more than being stupid with my own system and putting way too many upgrades on things just to see what happens lmao
November 14, 2025 at 10:52 PM
it feels like the bass line has a very... oh, thick, punchy feel to it? like it almost takes the song by the reins, like the melody! and the top half is a lot less mobile than what i expected.

...hmm.
i'm really not good at describing music terms!
i think i'll get better at it with time.
November 13, 2025 at 4:13 AM
stellaris' ost is so good...
man, i'd LOVE to compose as beautifully as that one day...

i gave the biogenesis OST a listen for the first time today. some beautiful tracks, but i've been smitten by the way biogensis (the song name) progresses.
November 13, 2025 at 4:11 AM
i've yet to test it, but i think you maybe could do some cute things with it. being able to double effects constantly might make for some silly scaling :3

...or you could double negative effects of units. no clue why, but you could!
November 12, 2025 at 2:42 AM
i was a bit inspired by a previous project of mine, so i decided to implement a cute little upgrade system! i figured that the only way to scale in a game like this would be to buy more units... and eventually, the micromanaging would be INSANELY cumbersome. so this might work better, i think!
November 12, 2025 at 2:42 AM
i'll always love that lua has built-in scientific notation for expressing numbers. i thought it was something that balatro coded in for the sake of readability but i guess not LMAO
November 8, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Looks pretty normal to me
November 8, 2025 at 10:14 PM
man, i love just working on games.
it's relaxing.
April 17, 2025 at 11:07 AM
i forgot to post lol
March 5, 2025 at 6:27 AM
the board game influences are so strong in this game's design, haha
it's kind of endearing looking at it?
