What if I were a yo-yo wielding caveman, I often wonder and as if the fates had heard, up pops Frak! on the BBC micro for #randomgamesaturday. Only £8.90 at your local Laskys!

Sadly missed. This era of box/promo art is what first drew me to Japanese games. Mario Land is a particular fave that I tried to pay some kind of homage to a while back.

Just watched through the State of Play and I have to admit that all the 3rd person hack/slash/shoot in a fantasy world games have kinda blended into one. It's like Directs and their cartoony twee farming/building in a fantasy world titles.

It looked lovely but Kena: Scars of Kosmora is the most 6/10 PS2 name I've heard in a long time.

It’s a bit mean but there’s a ‘candidate’ on The Apprentice that kinda reminds me of the later stages of the Knightmare life meter.

I can feel the spirit of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin in the Small Prophet prophets.

Unfortunately this ended my perfect run of not thinking about Linkedin one jot since I deleted it.

Age verification?

This was new on TV.

Post your favorite LOTR character. (wrong answers only)…

I'd completely forgotten about the little history lessons at the end of each episode of Mysterious Cities of Gold. Did they include these on the BBC showings? I really can't remember.

I'm enjoying Metroid 4 more than I thought I would but it does seem a little empty and the puzzles aren't all that involved or clever (well, so far). Either that or I'm used to the Prime tropes, now. Maybe settings that weren't just another alien planet with the usual ice, fire etc. settings...

Lovely to see Goemon get the collection love (well, in Japan, anyway). Would have been nice to have seen the N64 titles in there, too but beggars 'n' all that jazz. Takes me right back to Jonathan telling me off for spending too long on a background for N64 mag stuff.

Some top smooth jazz fusion going on in Kyoto Xanadu.

No Hi-Ten Bomberman, then?

As you'd expect, Orbitals hits my aesthetic sweet spot.

I predict there will be nothing about changing the design of the Switch game packaging to something more like the Japanese Super Famicom or Gamecube boxes in the Direct this afternoon.

We watched an episode of House last night and, at one point, he was playing Metroid Zero Mission on a GBA SP. My wife called me sad for pointing that out within a second of it being on screen but now I have to play Zero Mission again.

I've had Moho for a while now. Really should get around to messing about with it.

I knew it'd happen eventually although remember, it's not the eyestrain that's a problem, it's the neck ache.
Virtual Boy redemption arc begins now
I was never interested in the Virtual Boy – its upcoming Switch 2 revival included – but now that I've tried it, I have to admit it's kind of cool. gameinformer.com/2026/02/03/i...

Just popped out to post a letter and it occurred to me that since the pandemic my whole world has shrunk dramatically. First, working from home with the odd time popping up the road to the studio to now where I'm on my own, both work-wise and literally most of the time.

Fiddling with website/folio nonsense tonight which is actually good for reminding you of stuff you've done. I call this CryptidKids where they raise and train creatures then send 'em into battle. There'll be loads to collect and I really think I'm onto a winner.

I thoroughly enjoyed Wonder Man. It’s nice when something is a surprise like that.

I appreciate Metroid 4 reminding me of how to use the psychic bombs each time I need to use one as otherwise I'd completely forget they're there.

Much like the many 3rd party Star Wars LPs that littered the discount rack in our local Woolies in the late '70s I would soon also fall under the spell of any record that hinted at a Space Invaders connection. It was a confirmed sale if they actually had invaders on the cover.
