In 1957 publiceerde de filosoof Paul Grice een artikel met de eenvoudige titel 'Meaning'. Dit artikel werd een klassieker binnen de taalfilosofie, onder andere door de introductie van twee betekenissen van 'meaning'. Het kan echter zijn dat Grice dit onderscheid aan C.S. Lewis ontleend heeft. /1

In 1986 publiceerde Frank Jackson een argument tegen een fysicalistische opvatting over de geest a.d.h.v. een gedachte-experiment waarin kleurenwetenschapper Mary leert wat het is om rood te ervaren. De titel van het artikel luidt: 'What Mary didn't know'. 1/2

Het is nog helemaal niet zo lang geleden dat de term 'kunstmatige intelligentie' nog maar weinig gebruikt werd. Dat realiseerde ik me tijdens het beluisteren van een college uit 2011 waarin de term gebruikt werd.

Ik ben de tel kwijtgeraakt als het gaat om het aantal filosofievakken die ik gevolgd heb waarbij dit artikel tot de verplichte literatuur behoorde. Een echte klassieker dus.
