... but this is probably going to end up a gardening account
I rely on food chains, not pesticides in my garden - predators will come where there is food, and its so satisfying to spot them and know nature is doing its thing (ladybird/hoverfly larvae are my favourites - absolute machines)

Anyway this is a really easy thing to give up ... and to support ↓
Butterflies need two things to thrive: good weather and a healthy environment ☀️🌱

Join us in asking UK retailers to remove synthetic pesticides from sale for a wilder, butterfly-filled future for generations to come 👉 https://butterflyemergency.good.do/rescue-mission/

a glimpse of my process and what "artisan" means to me #handmade #silversmith #metalsmith #creative #creativeprocess #imadethiswithmyhands

just bailed on my next 3 craft markets because they also had a maker selling temu/shein charms there - it was labelled an 'artisan market' but...🤔 anyway I'm going to focus on online a bit again now, which requires proof of life via social media (apparently?) so, here I am + some stuff I made lately

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵

First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

still working on those photo editing skills and especially, trying to get gem colour to reflect reality instead of the inexplicable fever dream version my camera wants to give me 🤷🏻‍♀️

this is progress though (finally)

I'm trading at a big market in three days... so naturally I'm practicing photo editing instead of making jewellery to sell...

in non metalsmithing news, I discovered a frog, newt AND a slow worm in my suburban (but trying very hard to be a wild-life friendly) garden this week 🎉

no one in my house is as excited as I am....

Any #sweetpeas growers out there? What’s your favourite set up for small garden? Torn between an arch (but that means no roses on it) obelisk (is this more efficient use of space?) or wigwam (because budget friendly but … local cats. If you know, you know) tips / photos appreciated ❤️

when the #roses on that arch bloomed.....

in case anyone is curious, this is James Galway from David Austin - five years after planting, grown in the ground in a damp but very sunny & sheltered south facing bed

Taken at 8.45pm (!) on 24th may which is not that far away ❤︎

throwback to past gardens...not sure why, but the spark left me a bit the last couple years, but I've got that fizzy "springtime is nearly here and I just want to be outside and plant all the flower seeds" feeling again, so high hopes for 2025 🌷 now to find all the #gardening accounts on bluesky...

Past work: Engraved Rhodonite Ring

Nickname: Heathcliff

Photo taken before I finished so there is still silver dust all over it (I was zooming & checking the setting)

But this is about the stone - seeing a moody moorland & a pink sky in it, it's the one that made me fall in love with rhodonite 🖤

the "more mental peace" theory was also correct - I guess it's much easier on the brain to just not be somewhere you don't actually want to be, rather than stay because you think you're supposed to.

My #smallcreativebusiness, my decision ❤︎
my instagram officially deleted as of today 👋

since I closed I: rebranded, moved studio, opened folksy shop, added a ton to my website, reopened etsy shop, set up email newsletter, cleared my 4.5k inbox and a 8ft bramble hedge from garden...

I think the admin productivity theory was maybe right...

5% silversmith, 90% web developer at this point... do I actually need a website?!

... the last 5% is reserved for rolling onto Bluesky & freaking out at the state of the world ... but also finding moments of light here, whether political or not (I need both). Thank you Bluesky people for that ❤︎

Tiny feathers handcarved from scrap... or, how I measure my progress as a self-taught smith

pic 1 - November '23 (2 years, 10 months of silversmithing)

Past work: mini elemental pendants

Made from square recycled sterling wire + hand engraved

Fun to see a theme through but... too strict with those angles (and too repetitive) to make regularly
