I went to meet the 'Rockstar 31', the developers who were suddenly fired from their work on GTA 6 for what the studio has described as gross misconduct.

That's not what the workers call it though. They have another couple of words they prefer to use: union busting.

Fantastic Four - in cinemas
⭐⭐⭐

Superhero movies are done. This was the acid test and it was fantastically forgettable, even with this great cast, styling and VFX.

I enjoy most movies I watch, so just enjoying it isn't enough. It needs to burn brighter, clobber harder and not vanish from memory.

Superman
⭐⭐⭐

Dorky fun, night and day from Man of Steel and more like the OG.

Well paced, uncomplicated plot. Visually well executed, stadium fight aside, where characters look like plasticine.

Core casting is perfect, with other supporting characters adding to the fun.

Krypto steals the show.

Karate Kid: Legends - in cinemas
⭐⭐⭐⭐

A hugely likeable cast, great fight sequences, a dash of comedy and a splash of heart. Legends main failing is a paper thin villain and predictable plot, but for fans of this franchise (which I definitely am), this has everything for a good time.

Thunderbolts* - in cinemas
⭐⭐⭐

No, Marvel isn't back. Yes, it's a fun movie that's a little bit different, its just not an exciting or laugh out loud one.

Pugh and Harbour are great. Bucky is wasted, fake Cap ugh, Ghost is utterly pointless. Bob? He's ok.

Everything rides on Fantastic Four

Playing a lot of Blue Prince due to the rave reviews. So far it's been a fantastic, chill, puzzle experience.

Every day I peel a little bit more of the onion away and it's just super satisfying, even though I still feel like I know nothing.

"Free" on Game Pass and PS+, it's a must play.

Sinners - in Cinemas
⭐⭐⭐

Michael B. Jordan shines playing twin gangsters returning to the deep south, flush from ripping off the Chicago mob.

At its best during a bluesy slow build that reacquaints friends and lovers; Sinners sets up a fun, gory, but discordant, crimson stained final act.

A masculine biological female woman walks into a protected space for her. A woman already in there screams get out, you're not a woman. They say they are, she asks them to prove it, which they refuse.

Both women stay in the space, everyone is upset; and this is part of why the UK law is now an ass.

Nintendo Switch 2 looked good and then they revealed Donkey Kong and it became a must.

I assume they'll also announce official lapboards so you can use your Joy Con 2 as a mouse, because otherwise how is anyone doing that in their living room?

Paradise (S1) - Disney+
⭐⭐⭐

Bearing a passing resemblance in concept to a show on Apple TV+, Paradise is unique enough to keep me invested in its own story, just.

S1 is a mixed bag, with the emotional stakes in Ep7 the bar they need to aim for. It's a hard act to follow, but I'm in for the ride.

Anora - Video on Demand
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best Picture at this year's Oscars maybe says more about the competition than it does the movie.

That said, it's surprising and earnest, well scripted and performed, but even with some great misdirection, the setup is overly long; and the final scene left me cold.

Severance - Apple TV+
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The best sci-fi show on TV because like all the greats it focuses on its characters and their relationships, while using the central concept to twist them into anguishing knots.

Season 2 gives more answers than questions, but there's plenty more onion to peel.

The Last Breath - in Cinemas
⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's hard to rate a true story, so you have to look at the filmmaking; and they've done an excellent job of conveying the terror of being trapped on the bottom of the ocean without air and the desperation of the rescue attempt.

This truth is better than fiction.

Adolescence - Netflix
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stephen Graham is without a doubt my favourite actor working today, yet even his and Christine Tremarco's stunning performances are eclipsed by 15yo Owen Cooper's debut.

When combined with a powerful script and one shot filming, you have a four part, must see TV triumph.

I've finally started watching Severance Season 2, so I can binge all of this season in the run up to the final episode. Easily one of the best things on TV, but I'm only onto S2E03, so no spoilers please!!

Mickey 17 - in cinemas
⭐⭐⭐

What if you were so down on your luck that you took a job in space, working for a guy who's like a combo of Trump and Elon.

Your job, to repeatedly die for science and be resurrected by an organic 3D printer.

Unique? Yep
Fun? Mostly
Like the premise? Watch it

Daryl Dixon S1 & 2 - Sky and NowTV
⭐⭐

Daryl does France has interesting ideas, but fumbles the ball with key new characters who just aren't that interesting.

The central religious plot is dull, with storylines that create zero investment in Daryl's quest. There are fun moments, but too few so far!

Certainly glad the free Rakuten.tv movie I chose from the Octopus Energy Octoplus offers was Anora. Now I just need to find the time to watch it.

If you've seen it, does it deserve its four Oscars?

Captain America: Brave New World - in cinemas
⭐⭐⭐

Is it a return to form for Marvel? No

Have we set the bar too high for Marvel after Endgame? Maybe

Is this very much a Captain America movie? Yes

Is it entertaining? Yes

Do its flaws ruin it? Nah

Mackie and Ford are great, see it for them!

From - Sky / NowTV
⭐⭐⭐

Take Lost, set it in the US, throw in some Stephen King horror vibes and you get From.

It's in no rush to explain its central mystery, which may prove frustrating to some; and in the modern TV age, it feels like a throwback, but it's enjoyable with a likeable cast.

The Gorge - Apple TV+
⭐⭐⭐

A-list actors with real chemistry, an interesting premise, solid script and decent VFX make me surprised this didn't get a limited cinema release.

If you have Apple TV+ it's an enjoyable watch. If you don't, it's a good reason to get a free sub from a Currys UK purchase.

Heart Eyes - In Cinemas

A slasher rom com that's had its funny bone yanked out through its brain, forcefully attempted to be reinserted through its heart and all that's leftover is a bloody mess.

Visually it succeeds, but it lacks chemistry, comedy and scares.

Save your time and money.
