I’ve been working for the past weeks on a commission. I’m happy with the concept, but disappointed with the brushwork. The client was ecstatic and I was moved when I saw that they hanged it in their living room the next day. Will not be taking commissions for a while

Ok, no more excuses: need to get back to painting. Went yesterday to a painting course/group and, boy, felt so good to mess with paint just for fun!

Now that I’m more settled in my new house, I restarted painting. Sadly, a friend’s beloved pet passed away recently and she was deeply affected. I hope a painting of the cat will give my friend a way to cherish her memories. (WIP)

I have ideas and I have a client begging for paintings, but I feel stuck; 2 very long weeks until I get the keys of my new house+studio. I just fooled around for an hour every now and then, practicing and learning (light and shadows, test of soft blending acrylic paint)

It’s almost finished; the eyes need some sparkle. Since last time, I only re-worked the eyes, the mouth, the nose and the hair. Oh, and the neck. It would have been easier to say “I kept only the left ear as is”, but that would have been a very short post 😅

Another work in progress. I don’t know how other artists work, but I feel dread and overwhelmed when I set out to start a new painting, yet one hour later I’m so excited that you need to drag me away from the canvas by force, otherwise I won’t even drink a glass of water.

Work in progress - unfinished underpainting for a portrait of a woman. It’s nuts how much energy I get after one hour of painting, seeing the painted shapes coming together to form a painting. “Oh, here a bit more, and there, and this, ah forgot that!”

This week in art class: “paint the same thing in 6 different interpretations”. I wanted initially to paint a bowl from above in 6 positions, but the teacher didn’t have it even after intense negotiations. Ok, one face, 6 emotions/reactions then.
