Hold your breath and look to Germany: its election could decide the fate of Europe – and the UK | Martin Kettle
If the country holds out against the Trump-assisted AfD, it shows rightwing populism can be resisted in Europe’s heartland, says Guardian columnist Martin Kettle

Please everybody wake up. It is really a problem that democracies always sit out problems for so long. There is no guarantee that things will end well.
Russian propagandist Solovyev has his own ideas on what Russia and the US should negotiate.

"Why not create a military coalition between Russia&America and divide Europe?Who needs it? I think it's a great idea. We'll set up our bases, without a hitch, at the usual points -Berlin, Paris, as in 1814.

If I have to bet I would say Canada is not going to exist in 2 years anymore. I think most Canadians have no clue how much economic leverage the US has over them. It can literally starve Canada to death through a naval blockade without any direct military engagement. Most people are still in denial.

Canadian EU membership is becoming more palatable, as strange as it seems. Probably it is just going to be more treatises, but it is also good for Europe to think more out of the box. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJKe...

The only way I can interpret the GOP's actions is that they are 100% certain they will never face another democratic election again.

They hit the shore and burned their ships.

That is right. A successful Germany needs the EU. It is the most important market for Germany.
Europa ist keine Einbahnstraße – Solidarität kann man nicht nur dann einfordern, wenn es gerade passt. Gerade wer Kanzler werden will, sollte das verstehen.

Main take away: Nuclear energy production always was a massive money grab because it is a capital intensive monopoly business. Once you buy into it they can charge the utilities whatever they want and never deliver. Plant manufacturers like BBC explicitly strategized like this in Germany in the 80s.
This is one hell of a fantastic long-read by @roycerk2.bsky.social - just, please take in the entire thing

Nuclear advocacy out of Canada and the US has become an active part of the Australian conservative push to extend coal/gas power and kill wind and solar plans...

I love Emily Carr's work.
🌲⛪ Today’s haiku:

white chapel stands still
cedars lean, hush-whispering -
green tide closing in

Of course, illegal libertarian freedoms for corporations, copyrighted subscriptions and fascism for you.
Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models.

In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

Kennedy said "Ich bin ein Berliner" and every German knew that. We Europeans looked up to the US. That is impossible now. It is as if the US does not understand anymore how powerful it actually was and how much it is self-destructing right now.

Every serious, experienced organizer I know is Doing Their Thing. Instead of freaking out about each bit of bad news, we're in our lanes rapidly building dual power infrastructure and networks that don't rely on the goverment.

I also think this somewhat subtle and very technical route to control government makes sense from a computer science/AI perspective, but not to common people because of the abstract nature of organisational/financial control. One could argue it is maybe the first cybernetic coup attempt.
