Front-end view of the snowy first-day of service of the REM line to Deux-Montagnes.

#Montréal ‘s elevated automated light metro adds 14 stations this week. I’ll be getting a sneak-peek tomorrow. (This video from my man on the scene. Thanks, Dan!)

Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

as a "music tech" person i've had a lot of people come up to me and excitedly talk about suno or some other music generation app that they think is amazing. but none those people have been, like, avid music listeners or musicians or even really in music tech themselves. so.

There are going to be A LOT of misleading, vaguely-worded headlines — particularly from non-music publications — in the near future trying to drum up hysteria about the AI Music Takeover. Please try to not take them at their word. We're still a long way off from this actually being a thing.
I've been seeing this headline floating around. To be clear:

1) This is "No. 1" on a miniscule chart, The "Country Digital Song Sales" chart, as in people actually paying money to download country songs which is a tiny amount of people

2) The actual consumers are almost certainly fake

every time you refer to some tech as "AI" instead of something more specific that actually provides information about what kind of model / process it is, you are helping out openai et al. by making it more confusing to know how anything works in this world anymore

fascinating how in this review it's "machine learning" and "reinforcement learning" when the reviewer doesn't personally object to it but "AI" when it is bad. like, in two adjoining paragraphs. i don't even disagree with the score but the terminology here is so infuriatingly arbitrary
For Arc Raiders to ride the wave of human sociability all the way to the bank, while also being so contemptuous of the thing that makes us social animals in its own workflow demonstrates a lack of artistic integrity that I find impossible to ignore.

this is our new cat. she was a stray two months ago, underweight, been in some fights. she has since slept in our bed every night since we got her. her name is "email" because she has a very pronounced @ sign in her fur.

charles ives was the most bizarrely homophobic man who ever lived - to the point that his hatred for "sissy" men was considered excessive even in the early 1900s - oh he would bludgeon me to death with a pipe for sure. but he cant because he's dead. and i'm fruitily covering his masculine songs
I asked this before over at The Old Place and the answers delighted me. So again:

Who is an artist you admire who you suspect would not like you if they met you personally?

I think Peter Dinklage is fantastic. I would absolutely get on his last nerve. He'd be looking for the door while we spoke.
