West End: It’s where all the good food is, but the tourism lists won’t go. It’s where the schools are criminally overcrowded, but ACPS couldn’t possibly inconvenience wealthier whiter public schools to make things fair. It’s also not just one neighborhood.
We’re not here for the followers count but ain’t it funny that not a one school board member that “represents” the west end follows this account of west end parents? Maybe they not on here but how come the only board member following this account is from del ray?

ACPS finally sent notice to families who are being redistricted this morning. Group texts of multilingual working class West End parents are blowing up with questions and confusion about these messages because ACPS and the school board completely failed to actually engage with these communities.

At what point do we clean house at ACPS CO when it comes to leadership? Transportation, Facilities, so many clear problems.
Meanwhile schools have had unresolved and sometimes dangerous facilities problems drag on unresolved for months and months.

Update: supposedly there is finally toner at least for now, and also that it’s an issue at *multiple* schools. ACPS leadership needs to resolve this in a lasting way and the school board should stay on top of them about it.
For further context, we’re hearing from PHK8 parents that there’s no toner at the school and only one functioning copier so students aren’t getting homework because they can’t print or copy.Where is CO and the school board when a school’s got no toner in the first month of school?

Redistricting is on a lot of people’s minds today but I also want to lift up a public comment last night from a West End Parent urging ACPS & the board to fix the lack of a water source for Patrick Henry K8’s community garden.

The school board & ACPS says over and over again as much as they want that they’re looking out for the west end and whole city but these choices - action and no action in some cases - tell the truth of which voices they actually feel beholden to.

I guess credit to School Board member Abdalla for standing up against the group think that led to the really unfortunate middle school map that just got approved.

Stopped by Mediterranean Market (as one does on a West End Sunday) and witnessed this proud immigrant owned biz tell a first responder their pita was on the house. Immigrants are what make the West End, and this country, great.

Catching up on last week’s ACPS school board meeting. The ability of school board members to bend & twist themselves into justifying avoiding the necessary need to divide the MS boundary down Quaker really shows which parents they value. (And thx to Reyna, Abdalla, Harris for pushing back on it.)
