Thrilled to announce I have an essay in this gorgeous collection of New Extremity films from @umbrellaent.bsky.social, on Jan Kounen's high-octane piece of madness, Dobermann!

Volume 2 continues to showcase landmark films that redefined the boundaries of cinema at the turn of the millennium. This provocative selection of four films dives deep into the flesh, psyche, and tab...

A protege of Argento, the influences are clear in Michele Soavi’s feature narrative debut, StageFright. Dreamy visuals. Frenetic camerawork. Shocking kills. A banger of a score. And an unforgettable killer dressed in an owl mask.

Become more entranced by this one with every revisit.

It's here: the annual round-up of my favorite folk horror media! As always, these are not strictly 2025 releases but rather the movies I watched for the first time (mostly) throughout the year. What were your favorites?

There are 242 working days in 2026. If you write just one page a day - just 250-300wds, roughly 5 Bsky posts - you will have two full scripts or a novel by New Years Eve.

If you write just two pages a day - just 500-600 words - you will have five scripts or one epic novel.

Just. Keep. Writing.

A thread of writing from this year that I'm proud of:

First up, I continued my column at Manor Vellum on the humanity of monsters in film. Want to reshare this entry on The Fly, dedicated to my friend who passed away in late 2024. Miss you Bobby 🖤

All the physical media released this year that I worked on (and a couple others on the way). An immense pleasure to contribute to every one of these. Hope to do more in 2026

Everyone's sharing things they wrote in 2025, so here's a reminder that I wrote 31 consecutive essays on John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN during the month of October, totaling somewhere around 30k words.

I'm very proud of this project, and I'd love to turn it into a book if anyone's interested!

Did you guys know that BLACK CHRISTMAS is my favorite movie about abortion? I wrote about it from that angle and how the violence of the picture overlaps and is linked to the central question of the right to choose. It's one of my favorite movies in general.

It’s me, the person who actually had a decent time with the new Anaconda despite its many flaws. A silly ode to the passion for filmmaking and the childhood movies that made us.
'Anaconda' Review - Creature Feature Fun for the Whole Family
The new 'Anaconda' may not be all that scary, but it does wrap the audience in a delightful monster movie that's fun for the whole family.
