The depiction of sex workers is an underappreciated part of Adultery Contract. They're just portrayed as normal working people, and despite Liu's flaws, he has never treated the sex workers he encounters disrespectfully or looked down on their work

Seaside endings are such a cliché in BL but in The Insatiable Man it just MAKES SENSE cause it shows that Inwoo's trauma has healed to a point where he feels comfortable near water

What I like the most about Dr Lo's arc in Adultery Contract is that it's revealed she's sex-repulsed and the story LEAVES IT AT THAT. She doesn't get "cured", she doesn't HAVE to be "cured", doesn't imply she's missing out or pitiful, doesn't make her "compromise" for a partner

If I were to translate the title of Towei's novel 又不能當飯吃 I would translate it to "Can't Make Bread Out Of This!" and twt would accused me of erasing Asian culture or something 🤣

Though understandably most readers focus on depiction of survivors, for me, "What makes someone a perpetrator?" is an equally compelling question that is not often discussed in these kinds of narratives. It's why Chiang Liu is one of my fave Towei narrators; his POV is essential to the story

Oh my god. It took me 3 years to realise why Gigi in Adultery Contract doesn't use her legal name lol. I tried looking up which Taiwanese political figure has her name but it was in front of my eyes all along. She shares a name with HK chief executive (at the time) Carrie Lam lol
