The official Bluesky account of the Boston Water and Sewer Commission. Boston is home to New England’s oldest and largest water and sewer system, which are owned, maintained and operated by BWSC.
This week we visited seniors at the MLK apartments in Roxbury to talk about FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) and how they can cause some massive backups if dumped down the drain. When you have left over FOG, make sure to cool it, can it and trash it! Thank you again for inviting us!

BWSC is responsible for 30,000 Boston catch basins? We have invested a lot in human capital & capital equipment to stay ahead of the game and keep these CBs clean! Between our dedicated crews & contractors, 22,000 CBs cleaned in 2025, helping to prevent local flooding in an era of climate change.

Today is National pastry Day! Whether you're a home cook or a professional pastry chef, after achieving that perfect golden crust, remember to dispose of any excess fats, oils, and grease in a can, then throw it in the trash. FOG should never go down the drain; it can lead to massive backups!

Students are getting ready for winter break and we’re sending them home with knowledge that Fats Oils and Grease (FOG) can’t go down the drain! FOG can cause plumbing backups: protect your drains and toss FOG in the trash! #WeAreAllConnected
