Every time we have Northern Lights visible over most of North America, here in San Diego the solar storms cause one or both of these phenomena: clouds and fog. It's incredible – it covers the whole firmament! Yet whenever I show pictures of these wonders to others, they always seem… unimpressed. :-|

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" Galatians 5:22-23a

Henry Nouwen (1932·1996) & Fred Rogers (1928·2003), also Mister Rogers, became good friends c. 1984. They encouraged, corresponded, and phoned each other often.

Henri Nouwen, Fred Rogers and a life rooted in good soil - Living Lutheran
Both Henri Nouwen and Fred Rogers were marked by the spirit Paul captured in his letter to the Galatians—a spirit of kindness, gentleness and humility.

O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom: Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Reflection: I think we all appreciate some kind of beauty, and I hope we all have some sense of wonder. Since I've become familiar with the BCP (Book of Common Prayer) I have been finding much of both there. Some lines I pray a bit louder, and some, I admit, a bit choked up.

I thought about making a career as a historian, until I learned there's no future in it. 🤔 Now I'm thinking of making a career writing dad jokes instead.

The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

I think I've always said these lines a bit louder since I learned these Suffrages… 🙏
Let thy way be known upon earth,
Thy saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God,
& sustain us with thy Holy Spirit.

O God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
O God the Holy Spirit, Sanctifier of the faithful,

And I know You bore our sorrows
And I know You feel our pain
And I know that it would not hurt any less
even if it could be explained
And I know that I am only lashing out
at the One who loves me most

This is the very first song by Mullins I listened to, a modern Psalm!

If I Stand
by Rich Mullins

The stuff of Earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

So if I stand let me stand on the promise
that You will pull me through
and if I can't, let me fall on the grace
that first brought me to You
