Medical exemption for masking is another way of visibly pointing out which tribal group you're in. You become the exception. People with chronic illnesses deserve empathy not ridicule and hatred.
There’s also the issue of public perception.

Anti mask sentiment is a problem and people have been harassed, assaulted, spit on & more just for wearing a mask.

When you pass a mask ban, even with a medical exemption, you reinforce the notion that masking is “wrong”.

It emboldens anti-maskers:

The Republican-led state House passed a bill Tuesday that would adjust exceptions to the state law governing masks. The bill is awaiting a decision by Gov. Roy Cooper.

I feel like removing empathy is the perfect encapsulation of this administration
To comply with Trump's executive order on DEI, workers at NOAA have been instructed to deactivate specific agency materials containing the following keywords, per memos I obtained:

Lots of travel going on this month. Unfortunately it coincides with our Department's response to the Return to Work executive order. My staff are terrified of losing their jobs if they can't report physically. We're talking 2 hour commutes for some of them.
