Rent gouging is no longer allowed in Washington after Governor Ferguson signed HB 1217 into law this afternoon. Thanks to thousands of advocates from across the state, annual rent increases for residential tenants are limited to 7% plus CPI with a cap of 10%, and manufactured homeowners to 5%.

Word is getting out that on the last day of this legislative session, lawmakers passed a compromise rent stabilization bill that will take a big step toward providing more housing stability for Washington renters. Thank you to lawmakers who worked so hard to pass HB 1217! #waleg

Rent stabilization is still alive! This afternoon members of the House voted to not concur and not accept the version of EHB 1217 that was sent to them by the Senate. What happens next is the formation of a conference committee to work to fix the bill, and there are just 4 days left to get it done.
