Bill climbed down the ladder, noticing how the rungs were a part of the wall, not fastened to it. At the bottom he turned to see two vast windows, one on either side of the wall offering a view over the buildings opposite – and an unmissable view of the ocean beyond. How high is our elevation? Bill said, still admiring the vast view. Ar’Thyl poked his head down the opening so he too could see down. We’re on the fifth level of apartments. Each level is about ten meters, just over two for the human, just under eight for the Edroth. In addition the council chambers are almost as tall as the other buildings, so only the lower levels have obstructed views on some angles. “Oh,” Bill said out loud. “That’s quite high then!” The Edroth just rumbled in his mind as an answer. Turning around he saw what, by his reckoning, was the most awesome flat ever! Considering it’s a huge vault in the tower, with windows only on one side. The living area was located around the windows, with a kitchen area towards the back of the space, three doors opened towards the back too. Bill checked the first door, a bathroom with a toilet, a shower, and a washbasin. The second opened to a hallway leading to another door, which led to a large circular chamber. Some chambers here and there, a staircase going up and down, and doors leading, he thought, to other similar apartments. To one side he saw a room he thought might be a form of elevator. The third door opened into a sleeping chamber. The ceiling had a circular opening that was closed by some sort of cover. A large bed in the center, with a screen on the wall opposite. Bill walked to the screen and held his hand over what he identified as a sensor. The screen sprang to life and a keyboard materialised from nothing. This is so much cooler than the vintage typewriter mom had! He said. Remember, this building was once the most advanced structure on the planet, might still be, I think. Ar’Thyl responded. The priests went through with the house #cleansing. They appealed to the Gods, chanted for protection and sprinkled salt and herbs around the foundation.

Ahead of them the city appeared. A small island, somewhat like an elongated circle, with a huge tower rising from the middle. Around it a series of other structures from the one side all the way to the side of the tower. Beyond it was a park, where Bill could see a large circle of stones around a center of larger stones. Can I really live here? Bill wondered. Ar’Thyl rumbled, there is no provisional status for an Aludim. You and I will always have a home here. They came in to land in the park beyond the tower. Bill could see a woman stood there, and behind her an even bigger Edroth than Ar’Thyl. Who are they? That is Tori, and behind her is Tina. They are one of the four original Aludim of this age. Ar’Thyl informed. The truth is, without the bravery of those four Aludim we never would have been able to return to this realm. Bill almost ignored a follow up as he spotted a giant blueish Edroth land in the tower, just as another large reddish one leapt into the air carrying what looked like a woman. Who is that? That is my parent, Castor, along with his Aludim, Zhe’ra. You’ll meet them later. Ar’Thyl said. Ready? Bill tried a remark but was too awed. Yes, I’m ready. They touched down in front of the two, Ar’Thyl beamed as he introduced them. “Hi there Bill,” Tori said. “Welcome to Al’Edos! Hey, is that all the luggage you brought?” Indicating to his backpack. “No worries, the city will provide. Your rooms are ready, and you’re both welcome to join us in the main hall for a feast later.” “Thank you!” Bill said. “Is there a shower? I feel like I need a full cleansing after the trip!” He laughed nervously. Tori laughed, “just let Ar’Thyl here take you up and you can put your stuff on the table, and let me tell you: the showers here are amazing! No soap! They just clean!” Tori speaks truth, another voice entered his mind. At a lookout Bills confused face, it continued, laughing I’m Tina, Boy! We can all speak like this – even you! And I offer thanks f… They touched down in front of the two, Ar’Thyl beamed as he introduced them. “Hi there Bill,” Tori said. “Welcome to Al’Edos! They said their goodbyes, and Bill climbed up on his Aludims back once more. Ar’Thyl took off and flew towards anopening in the tower, where he slowly landed. This is my room, Ar’Thyl said. Your rooms are below, you can use the ladder he indicated to the corner of the room, where a large opening in the floor was, and a ladder was attached to the wall. Bound to each other in spirit, yet physically apart, feeling every notion of the other as much as one's own, made it difficult to set boundaries. Travelling time, and space, like this had been going on for eons. But now, as times were changing, and spaces weren't seperated, any more, a promise older than the universe was reborn. Coming downstairs this morning he had no idea how amazing it was going to be, flying within bonded Edroth. Ar’Thyl flew nonchalantly over lakes and grasslands on their way south, the earth looking like a painted canvas adorned with colors of the earth below. Why doesn’t air rush at me? And how come I don’t feel cold? Bill thought. When we fly, we generate a natural field around us, lessening air-pressure and making it easier for us to fly. Within that field, we can make it as warm as needed. Ar’Thyl responded. If you wish I can do a dive which lets you feel the elements more closely. All I need to do is fold down my wings…. No, no! Bill said, no need for that. It’s just. This is comfy. He continued scouting down below. Flying went fast when in an Edroth, the ground passing by underneath, without illusory agency at all. Bill felt alive, untamed – able to do anything! Ar’Thyl caught some of Bills thoughts and rumbled happily below him. I didn’t realize how far away it is, on the map it looked like a quick trip, Bill said after a couple of hours. Maps are tiny compared to Tellus. Ar’Thyl said. I think the city we’re passing now you call Kansas. If that tells you how far we’ve come since we left. Bill tried picturing the map in his head. Kansas, if we’re flying straight down from west of Minneapolis through Kansas that’s slightly less than a third of the way. Exactly! Ar’Thyl laughed. I don’t think there are any major cities left on our path, but in two-three hours we should hit the sea. And shortly thereafter you’ll get to see the city of Al’Edos from above. Bill looked out over farmland, untamed forests, and rivers as their journey continued. He couldn’t ever have imagined how awesome it was! In the distance he thought he could see hills, or mountains. But he was so high up that everything looked tiny below. Through clouds they flew, only encountering a few aircraft even higher above.
