Screenshot from a work-in-progress visual novel, Catalyst: Blind Faith. A dilapidated fishing village has a dirt road packed with faceless peasants in silhouette. Fine cloth banners are hung around the makeshift town square, depicting two open hands joined by the sun. Dawn rises over a shadowy forest, watchtowers, and barren farmland in the distant background. An item has been presented to the player: a solid gold pendant of two open hands, which are much more refined than the ones depicted on the banners. The text onscreen that accompanies this item reads: "Holy Symbol of Mercy. A traditional symbol of the Goddess of your Church. This was a risky gift from Father Edmund—only the Church's leader is permitted to wear gold." A choice menu is presented to the player as they overlook an enchanted series of stairs. The player leans over a crumbling ledge, where a small and rocky waterfall rushes endlessly from an unseen and nonsensical source. The cavern ahead is filled with mist and sunlight. The staircases that lead away from their position are barely intact, and absurdly tall, with bases that lead deeper than the mist. Two, small, glowing doorways lie at the other end of the cavern, glowing with so much light that nothing can be seen beyond them. The choice menu reads: "You have faith in your Gods and your own abilities. Start climbing down." or "This is a terrible idea. Return to Malimos's lair to search for an alternate route." Custom UI for Catalyst: Blind Faith, styled like a handmade journal. The deckle-edge pages are flipped open to a tab for the God of Vengeance, which is splattered with old blood. Along with tabs for all the other deities in the fictional pantheon, and places to review characters met, demons faced, inventory items, maps, and notes, the player gets detailed and dynamic information on each category. Here they have hovered over the first page for Vengeance, and a sheaf of paper appears with the player's history with this deity and the player-controlled MC's current reflections on their relationship. Though the player is tracking how many lives they have taken with this deity, their reflections are slightly more opaque: "You find yourself drifting from the path of the vengeful and vindictive. Such a thing can be easily amended." Work in progress, grayscale, hand drawn art for the dark fantasy and horror visual novel Catalyst: Blind Faith. A loosely sketched woman with a dark cloak and fluffy hair lies on the ground, her face obscured by her hair as she looks at a a slender, heavily scarred young man. This priest of murder, the protagonist, is seen in third person perspective while his deity works through him.
