God I've admitted to be willing to mess with chat-gpt. It even sometimes manages to help me with code for dumb shit though I won't let myself rely on it. Still, been learning renpy and have jumped over a few times and its hilarious how bad it is at stuff that isn't well worn javascript CRUD app bs

Just NONSTOP lying about API stuff to a hilarious degree, Which isn't *super* surprising, but is still kinda surprising since renpy still has a lot of code out in the wild. Really shows how fragile this shit is. I haven't gotten one useful thing out of it, even for relatively easy shit.

Yeah, RenPy right out of the box supports everything: controller, keys, mouse, any combination. Sometimes spatially navigating the menus is rough but it works.

Unity-based ones, well, they're home-grown or using some other middleware which makes other assumptions about inputs.

On the Renpy front while the docs are... not great (no shade, docs are hard), the code is so good at being kinda self documenting like oh just dig in the boilerplate a bit and oh okay thats how that works~

Also being able to reference other projects easily is great

wanted to use Unity/Godot. We didn't even end up with basic save/load functionality at the end. It felt a little like my writing and art went to waste.
Ofc, if your programmer IS able to do one of the above, those engines give much more flexibility than RenPy (3/3)

Half bodies are fine, I use them myself! As for the size, I highly suggest trying Renpy and testing things there with a very simple scene. The screen sizes options over there are 800x600, 1280x720 and 1920x1080
