It’s easy to write off Los Angeles as a car dominated wasteland, and in doing so forget about the River bike path & its river-oriented cafes/ restaurants, the transforming DTLA & its growing network of protected bike lanes and rail adjacent park space, Griffith Park & its car-free roads, and more.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is posting before/after pics of some of the city’s street transformations and I am reminded we could have this in Los Angeles too. In fact we did for a few hours during ArroyoFest.
If only there were political will to fully ban cars from the Arroyo Seco Parkway!

The first modern “Class II” bike lane in Los Angeles dates from about 1974 and the first time car lanes were eliminated to make space for bike lanes happened in 1979 and 1980.

I love my e-bike, it is a necessity to avoid sweating on my commute or when riding the hills of my neighborhood with cargo. But when I get the chance to pick up lunch or dinner in my neighborhood I prefer to use my regular bike.

I just ran the numbers & it looks like since just March this year the industry group Bay Area Council spent btwn $35k to $43.7k on Facebook & Instagram ads promoting their campaign to close the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Trail. Are we going to let them win? Speak up!

Is there good shade umbrella for biking?
Some bikes have shade for passengers which is great but what about the rider?
I would love to take refuge in shade from tall buildings or trees but LA has few of either and sometimes you are stopped at a red light just baking in the sun.

A whole lot of organizations and politicians do not understand just how minimal their 'reach' truly is on X. It's not what Twitter was. You are shouting at bots and right-wingers. Nobody else sees what you do there. Daily users are down, time on site is down, and the algorithm is hostile to you.

The Winter Cycling Conference is an event where cities that get cold come together and share tips and motivation for cycling through winter.
How about a Summer Cycling Conference for places that get hot- Bogota, Mexico City, South Korea, Seville, Madrid, California, etc?

AI is like plastic. It has some legit uses, yes, but it's really bad for the environment so it should be used as little as possible. Unlike plastic, it's a whole lot easier to restrict it now, because it's only been around a few years rather than ~200. The time to stop it is now.

1) We know where the traffic is 2) easiest traffic to fix is convert short car trips to walk, bike, and transit (invest in these)
3) Most traffic happens as drivers get closer to the central city (see #2 above)
4) long distance freeway traffic is fixed via better public transit, infill development

For about 2 to 3 months in 2020, we had streets in Los Angeles that became pedestrian priority streets. People walking and biking on these “Slow Streets” outnumbered car traffic and on my local “ Slow Street” I saw more people walking and biking in 2 months than I have seen in the years since.

My attempts to connect between Fletcher Dr and the Red Car Pedestrian Bridge in Atwater. I have yet to find the best bike route between the two points but zig-zag to avoid the surprising amount of car traffic on the local streets in this area.
