I found these very old Victorian Pennies in a charity shop yesterday a small bag full. The paper tells you what they are. I was happy to find them ☺️

"Beyond the Black Diamond Gates" [cf. Opera IX]

Interior of the dilapidated chapel at Abney Park Cemetery, London, seen from the separating grate, before its restoration.

Apparently the cemetery has catacombs 🦇 It would be wonderful to get inside and photograph these at some point 🖤

Cloister, Brompton Cemetery, London. This shot is taken from the entrance to the crypt that runs underneath the cemetery.

I wasn't able to gain access to it, but maybe one day?

#gothicadvent is sadly over but I've still a wealth of photography that hasn't been shared to re-tag!

This Celtic cross is from Abney Park, maybe the most 'gothic' cemetery from London's "magnificent seven". It's no surprise that a rock band in the USA used the name 🖤 #photography

Victorian and Edwardian statues in my hometown of Leicestershire

1 - A statue named the Leicester Seamstress. Rather than being of a particular person, it represents the city's hosiery heritage.

In Victorian England, the language of flowers, or floriography, was a popular way to convey emotions and sentiments. Specific flowers such as white lilies, dark crimson roses, black hyacinths, violets, and rosemary (as seen here) are still associated with grief, loss, and remembrance.
