The scifi obsession with “colonising new worlds”. Is always seen as a passive and gentle act. Only this trilogy correctly states it’s a bad thing. If Avatar addressed its problematic issue but was about “peaceful colonisation” and “seeing eye to eye” I would despise it.
Modern scifi has an obsession with space CIA doing evil shit as this idea of their being “a cost to paradise”. Avatar correctly says the cost is not for you to decide- Fuck off.
While flawed in ways which are unique to it. I think the Avatar trilogy is better than The Lord of the Rings Film trilogy. It goes beyond good and evil and instead looks at colonialism in depth. it never betrays this by trying to redeem it or add nuance. There is no “but at what cost” or “actually”
