this is true, but it genuinely isn't that hard to set up a small instance board for your friends. what's harder is the midsized board where its not 100% people you already know
Forums are nostalgic to people of exactly my age, but I think they just have a different combination of the weaknesses of chat clients and social media. I think what ppl miss is having a small, close-knit community, and that's increasingly hard to replicate as corpos own it all.
