What China is trying to do instead is position itself as global power that provides an alternative to what the US offers. It's not always better, but it's more stable.
Even when the US has intervened, China usually finds a way to work with the new government. And that works for them (for now).

Putting this article to one side, I do think a lot of people fundamentally misunderstand the role that China plays in the world, and desperately wish it was more like the Soviet Union.
The reality however is that China has always talked about how it is non-interventionist and opposes hegemony.
