jrpg isn't a real genre. its a useful shorthand and comparative term (i.e. if you like tales games you'll probably like falcom games) but when more academically discussing things like whether the genre has "evolved" enough or not it becomes tautologically useless

in the 2000s, on a lot of anglo online gaming sites, forums, chatrooms, etc... you'd be mocked extremely heavily for liking anime or jrpgs
so a lot of people sorta gaslit themselves into thinking they hated them (despite never playing them), to fit into their old middle school social circle

Probably that everyone should go see therapists/psychologists/psychiatrists because we all face things we cannot heal on our own, especially with Mental Health.
