i think the thing that really sells wicked the most is that it just falls short. not so much that it’s bad, but enough that audiences will engage in those shortcomings through art, fanfiction, essays, etc and they will build versions amongst themselves that are greater then the source

you can love a character and still admit when they're wrong. we love Shadow but we can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) and we can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he has never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out on his actions (which are always correct)

A good question to ask oneself politically is 'what do I need to ignore in order to maintain my commitment to x, y, and z?' Because if you, for example, need to ignore a whole group of people's humanity in order to vote for a horrible politician, then it may be too costly to your soul.
