A G-rated impression from our recent PhD-Lunch: @jebbb.bsky.social presenting his research on #OriginalSin in #16thCentury exegetical debates, which we announced in such graphic detail that #bsky censored us (poor #Eve, but there is no such thing as prelapsarian fig leaves...)

Reading and fuming 🤯😉I occasionally get angry with Aristotle. The man believed that women were a defect of nature. The audacity of suggesting that those that make life possible are defective! #research #earlymodern #feminist

I've a problem with #emojis here on #bluesky: if I'm on the phone, I have to use the phone's set of emojis which are different from the standard bluesky ones (compare 🗃 with 🗃️). Some #feeds depend on the standard set, though, and posts written on the phone will not be loaded. Any #workaround?

I'm a bit confused about their opening statement:

"While historians have been able to digitize physical typewritten documents using [...] (OCR), handwriting, with its individual styles, has until recently resisted recognition by computers."

Aren't we doing this for more than a decade now? #dh 🗃

It's true students are less religiously literate nowadays. But the Reformation still has much to teach them about ideas, fights over ideas and consequences of ideas. Studying the social, cultural and political management of difference remains as relevant as ever. #reformazing
So, friends, I've been teaching early modern history for over 20 years and I feel like I can't teach the Reformation anymore. It's not that I don't think my lectures are effective, it's that I don't think the students have any connection to the subject. Has anyone felt this recently? #earlymodern

One for the #Reformation experts: I reread #Luther ’s Assertio (1520) with the passage below on #FreeWill (🇬🇧 in the ALT text). Isn’t this a deliberate provocation of #Erasmus, four years before their famous dispute broke out? SecLit seems to be silent about it. Thoughts, hints?

I've just come across a new-to-me category of #earlymodern convent employee. It's women who are entrusted w/carrying letters to and from the convent. They seem to be well-compensated. Wondering if any of you have ever come across something similar.

Okay, #skystorians #BrainsTrust, can anyone help me work out who this letter is to? It is from Georg Calixtus, dated 22 February 1635, and it is to a "prince" (it would be a duke/Herzog) with theological as well as political interests. (It includes biblical references and makes theological points.)
