After hearing Trump say “Quiet Piggy” to a reporter, I was transported back to the 80s when boys called us pigs, using “Miss Piggy” as a slur. I heard it so often that I developed body image issues that followed me to adulthood. This is the language of a misogynistic man child, not a president.

Banning books is never acceptable. As a teen, I learned things I should have learned at home; I found validation that what I was experiencing was not okay; I grew in ways that have stayed with me my entire life. Books saved my life. I am so proud of these communities for saying ENOUGH!

Writing my memoir has felt a bit overwhelming—turning personal & sometimes traumatic experiences into hope for others has felt like a big responsibility. I picked up Handling the Truth: On the Writing of Memoir by @bethkephart.bsky.social for guidance & inspiration, & I’m so glad I did. #booksky 📚💙
