🚨BREAKING BILL WATCH ALERT: Sen. Gaskill just led efforts to slash Indiana’s early voting window - WITHOUT ANY OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT! This is VOTER SUPPRESSION! Contact your Senator at 317-232-9400, or visit MADVoters.org/bill-tracker, and tell them to vote NO on HB 1359 as amended.
Senate Elections Committee votes to cut early voting without opportunity for public comment. 2/16/26: In today's committee hearing, chairman Sen. Mike Gaskill (R) offered an amendment to HB 1359 that would shorten early voting from 28 days to just 16 days in Indiana. THis was passed without opportunity for public comment. When questioned about this, Sen. Gaskin said that the committee heard a similar bill last year, so people had the chance then to testify. That was a COMPLETELY SEPARATE SESSION! The public deserves to have a say in massive policy changes like this one: sneaking it in after that opportunity is an affront to democracy and the will of voters. Indiana should not be a carceral state! SB76 requires law enforcement to participate in immigration detention. We are already strained by Gov Braun’s public safety funding cuts; the bill would lead to overcrowded jails and prisons, expanded detention facilities, and further harm our economy!

Our partners Mad Voters and Voices 4 Democracy are tracking the most harmful bills at the Statehouse. See the Substack link in comments on the current “Dirty Dozen.” Today’s focus: SB001, which targets the poorest Hoosiers by cutting SNAP and Medicaid.
Wednesday, February 4 Our Focus - SB001 What it does: Targets the poor. How it does it: Drastically cuts spending on SNAP and Medicaid by significantly tightening eligibility and administrative requirements for either program. It reverts Indiana to stricter federal income and asset limits, which are already laughably low limits ($5K in assets and $2,680 in monthly take-home pay). Who You Call: Committee Chairman, Rep. Jeff - Thompson at (317) 232-9651 What You Say: I oppose SB001. 1) This bill will cause millions of working families and senior citizens to lose needed food and healthcare benefits. 2) It puts an unfair burden on immigrants residing legally in the U.S. by requiring them to re-prove their status. 3) It will lead to removal of eligible people from the rolls because of the increased re-certification requirement and burdensome process. 4) It dramatically increases the administrative burden and costs on FSSA becanse of 6-month recertification requirement instead of an annual recertification requirement. This is an URGENT call to action and we hope that you will call your representatives to encourage them to vote no on SB012! Time is of the essence as they are voting on this NOW!
Urgent Policy Action Alert This is a quick, high-impact pro-democracy action. Act now: Call your state representative at 317-232-9400 and urge them to vote NO on SB 012, which would ban Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in Indiana. RCV gives voters more choice and can reduce polarization and extremism. Instead of letting Hoosiers learn about it or vote on it, GOP legislators have introduced SB 012 to ban RCV before the public has a chance to consider it. RCV is already used successfully in parts of the U.S., including statewide in Maine and Alaska. The Senate vote is happening now, but the bill can still be stopped in the House. A committee hearing with public testimony is coming soon, as legislators aim to end the session by next month. This is our chance to speak out. SB 012 does nothing to improve voter turnout, election trust, or governance. It simply restricts voter choice and permanently removes RCV from consideration in Indiana—another attempt to lock in one-party rule through anti-competitive policies and gerrymandering. Indiana is not a ruby-red state; it’s purple. For the sake of our democracy—and future generations—let’s defeat SB 012. SB 012 restricts voter choice. Ranked-choice voting is already used in places like Maine and Alaska, and lets voters express their preferences without “wasting” votes. Banning won’t fix turnout or trust—it just limits Indiana’s future. Tell your state senator to vote NO on SB 012. #HoosierActivism
Prohibition of ranked choice voting. Author Senator Blake Doriot, Senator Chris Garten, Senator Mike gas kill republican. Preemptively prohibits the use of ranked choice voting in Indiana elections. This means that voters will not be able to rank candidates by preference, and elections will continue using traditional voting methods. This bill doesn't resolve low voter turnout or improve voter access. The status on this bill is that it's past the second reading, step two of eight steps. Call to action. Get elected to represent your neighborhood as a PC! It’s super simple & a position that is one of the most important for making decisions in your area! Just file the CAN-37 form Jan 7 - Feb 6 by noon. Register to be a State Delegate using another of the same form, too! #HoosierActivism
Precinct committee person how to file. Check eligibility. Did you vote democratic in their last primary election? If not, ask your county chair to certify you. Fill out the can 37 form – declaration of Canada for precinct committee person in 2026 available on the Secretary of State website. File with a county clerk between January 7 and February 6 by noon. Get elected at the May 5 primary you will be listed on the ballot more than one person filed for the precinct to reside in. if you miss filing or did not win your election if they are open precinct in the county vote for the Democrat leadership every four years, register your neighbors to vote, appoint Democratic coworkers during the election. PCs vote for the county party committee. The next Democratic organization is March 2029.
