It's bad news. This still isn't the year of Linux on the desktop

Apparently there's a scam now which has a fake captcha (or uses a real captcha with stuff added to the page around it) where it asks you to press windows + r and then ctrl + v and then enter as the last step to run some shit it put on your clipboard

Don't do that...

Me, with xkill running and the cursor hovering over an unresponsive program:

The program all of a sudden:

Both on Windows and in Linux I am in a command line or utility frequently, trying to fix something or change configs.

Even after recently loading a Win7 VM to house some 90s games reminded me of how many barriers you run into.

I'm starting to think Linux might handle running them better 😆

In the hundreds of online microcommunities around Linux, you'll find the occasional RTFM prick (and, tbf, an actual manual does usually *exist* and may have your answers), but more often than that people really helping to solve your problem, with all confidence that it is *solvable*

Even I experience the "I just want shit to work right now" with Linux.

I've got a migraine and my blue light filter stopped working on one monitor and I just sighed and restarted my machine. It didn't persist so it was probably a related service but I'm just like... Not right now, damn it.

New project idea unlocked
I wonder if Linux has a command to ritualistically sacrifice Microsoft Teams

I get the privilege of prepping someone to switch from Windows 10 to a Linux distro in the next month or so. I'm also in conjunction going to be working on my Linux newbie guide. You'd better believe I'm going to be detailing the switch in my guide!

As a senior Linux professional, I have to admit that sometimes you have to put off updating the jinglehopper until you can do without the beebeehams for long enough to slay the jabberwocky.

I've seen this shared a few times recently. Check it out!

I've planned to do my own write up on getting away from Adobe as well, but now I might not need to... At least not for a while heh.
Good video, even if you don't want to use Linux it's got some good alternatives to the Adobe shit.

I actually swapped just yesterday to Linux Mint, and first of all, it's a hell of a lot easier both to swap and to use than I ever thought. Second of all, I'm noticing huge performance improvements from my computer. Do it man, swap, it took me all of 45 minutes to learn and do

The clock has officially struck midnight, and I couldn’t even wait a full minute into 2025 to drop this article. 🎉 Happy New Year!

It’s the age-old question in the Linux community: Is this the year of the Linux desktop? Let's talk about it!
Will 2025 ACTUALLY Be The Year of The Linux Desktop?
Linux is on the rise, gaining users, enhancing compatibility, and providing viable alternatives—can this finally be the year it shines?

I think it's kind of funny that when I was a teen I would hear mention of Linux and think it was some "wild foreign fantasy computer thing" and now I'm obsessed '-'

Thanks to my idiot young self for randomly installing Parrotsec out of curiosity, because that changed everything for me lol

New Starter Pack brewing, exclusively for #gamedev that support #Linux directly.

I've added a good few to start, but boosts and suggestions appreciated.

If you're a dev replying, be sure to link your game(s).

So weird seeing this and it not being about Linux users for once

I'm like "oh the Mac people do it too... Good to know" lmao
it really is weird to ask for advice on one small piece of software for a PC and have it devolve into Mac users insisting that the answer is to buy a Mac because reasons and more reasons and other reasons, as if I'm going to say "okay, I'll throw out my PCs and start again"

I'm so used to editing on Premiere Pro that I thought it would take me ages to get acclimated to anything else, but nope. Kdenlive is a pretty awesome alternative on Linux. Got the hang of it within a half hour of peeking around and editing a project. :D
