there was a whole explosion in "Rebirth is too silly/cringe" discourse while we were deep into making this (started about 3 months ago) and I almost abandoned the thumbnail because it felt too confrontational, but ultimately kept it. anyway if you want to know why dyne has a tetsuo arm watch this

there was a whole explosion in "Rebirth is too silly/cringe" discourse while we were deep into making this (started about 3 months ago) and I almost abandoned the thumbnail because it felt too confrontational, but ultimately kept it. anyway if you want to know why dyne has a tetsuo arm watch this

While working on the next Last Elixir video I discovered that Dyne has a bunch of cut behavior in his OG boss fight. He has an unused animation for throwing something (no associated unused attack), the ability to cast fire, and an unused action for yelling at Barret mid-fight (no associated text).

I was sort of confused by this at first because there's like a good hour of Laguna stuff in VIII, but I think Nojima must mean scenes where we're recalling something that happened to at least one of the protagonists—and VII has quite a lot. A full two thirds of the cast have flashback scenes!
Nojima says that after FFVII came out he got sort of rattled by people writing stuff online like "Flashbacks are so hackneyed," so with VIII he hardly used any at all. But then maybe as a rebound, X ended up having tons of flashback scenes. (Famitsu, 2021)

One thing I always love in older ff games is one-off maps that show a different angle from the revisitatable one you usually see. Lots of these in VIII now that I think about. VII has a few (obviously the church, but also Elmyra's house and Tifa's room)
