Since we're sharing how placeholder art "actually looks like", here's mine for a current project.
This is actually progress for me, I had a habit of making finished-level art as needed in the past, wasting a lot of time once I didn't want that look anymore. I felt it motivated me better.

Sometimes I hate myself for the kind of gameplay ideas I have, coding this tumbling block physics with the screws was SOO hard
But I'm happy that the block puzzles are getting more varied and better integrated with the platforming, pacing and all

i always knew those fuckin rhinos felt out of place
Super Mario World has an extremely eclectic art style whereby many enemies are drawn in completely different ways. Development files reveal Mario went through many stylistic changes; it is possible that all the enemies were made to fit Mario, but at different points in time.
