There's been a huge movement towards infantilizing teenagers instead of moving them towards independence. I see a ton of people online saying how horrible it is for teens to work part time when they're in school. Having a part-time job was super common when I was a kid.

The degradation of internet spaces seems to me to mirror the degradation of IRL infrastructure: a rush to build things, often quickly and cheaply, and then no interest in upkeep once the thing is built. As with roads, rails, buildings, so too with social networks, search engines, and websites.
