The Manitoba legislature has passed Bill 43, adding gender expression to the provincial human rights code.

In this doom and gloom climate, it's important to mark victories like this, to remember that despite the rise of the far right, we can still organize and win for 🏳️‍🌈 people.

Last evening I attended the YWCA Metro Vancouver Women of Distinction nominee announcement event.
And then stayed at the YWCA hotel.
Thank you to my nominators. I hope we can continue to do good work together @robbiebean.bsky.social

It’s like the Trump administration had a big brainstorm session on the fastest way to end western civilization, and they decided that scapegoating EDI and ignoring the climate crisis would just take way longer than causing World War 3.

New Conservative Party Canada ad has Pierre Poilievre in a tshirt, walking through a sunny field.
Here’s a campaign tip: Want to humanize PP for Canadians? Stop threatening the human rights of trans people and women. A tshirt won’t soften his image enough to obscure his values.

I’m also thinking about my Ukrainian ancestors. Their experiences of resistance are mostly lost to time, but I know they made it out. Five generations later, our family still knows where they come from, still practices language and culture. Still insists on a silent J defying phonetics are erasure.

Today I’m thinking about my Métis ancestors and how they fought and survived hate and war. Some of them were organizers and their names appear in history books. Others quietly survived. I’m here because of all these choices. And all these responses are available to me.

Did you hear that Facebook and Instagram have made drastic changes to their policies that protect us from hate speech and disinformation?

I’ll be closing both my accounts in the coming weeks.
