Outspoken Conservatives on FB really think that laugh emoji means some shit, don't they?

@stephenking.bsky.social books hit different after you become a parent.
For instance I think I'm going to reread The Shining and see if it resonates differently as a father.
Conversely I will never touch Pet Sematary again, as long as I live.

I mean all of that in the best way possible.

TIL: Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot was Director of Photography on a handful of Reading Rainbow episodes in the 80s.
One of the episodes has a dramatic reading from recognizable character actor Keye Luke.
But don't take my word for it.

I think after Trick or Treating with the kids, I'm going to find that episode of Unsolved Mysteries where the guy gets fed up in his haunted house, and threatens to fight the ghosts.

I think the rapture happened.

It's just that nobody who believes in the rapture was worthy, because of what modern American Christianity has become.

Now, you're stuck here with us heathens. Enjoy, we have good music.

Your feelings on the events of the day are worthy of discussion.

My question after today: Where are the Epstein files?

People are mad about the Cracker Barrel logo change like we didn't go through the roller coaster that was the Cookie Crisp cartoon character saga.
From Cop and Crook; to Cop, Crook, and Dog; to Crook and Dog; to just the dog; to a wolf.

General Mills trained y'all for this.

I fell asleep listening to the audiobook of The End of the World As We Know It: New Tales of @stephenking.bsky.social's The Stand.
Those were some wild dreams, and I woke up with a runny nose. Full immersion horror.

What you're ACTUALLY saying when you say "Superman went woke" is that you:
1. Don't know what you're talking about.
2. Are alarmed to find that, in your adult life, you made decisions that led you to being on the side that were "the bad guys" in the stories you watched/read while growing up.

Mission: Impossible- What if this beloved 60s show was a big-budget Macguffin hunt?
Mission: Impossible 2- What would a James Bond movie look like if Bond was an American douche bag?

In this house we are excited for The End of the World As We Know It- New Tales of Stephen King's The Stand.
My hope is that one of these incredibly talented souls will bravely answer if somebody in the Boulder Colony moved into the Mork & Mindy house, and how that affected their lives.

I get why techbros and their ilk like gen-AI: artists and writers to them are just an obstacle to be bypassed. But I'll never get an author/artist/musician who uses it. "I want to be a writer." No you don't. You fetishize ideas but hate the work. You don't respect the craft or its practitioners.

If Stephen King has taught me anything it's that antique dealers are evil: Leland Gaunt, Reginald "Pop" Merrill, and Barlow & Straker.

Also fiction authors are flawed, but good guys: Ben Mears, Paul Sheldon, Bill Denbrough.

Just don't give a writer a drink: Jack Torrence.

IMHO the wildest swing on Holmes came right from Arthur Conan Doyle: in the first Holmes novel, A STUDY IN SCARLET, he takes an almost neck-breaking turn in the last third, where it goes from victorian detective story to a gritty, Utah-set, leather-slapping revenge western. Give it a read.

From HOUSE, to THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE, to RDJ, to Cumberbatch; I'm here for all of it.

Ever since then I've been a sucker for any remixes, remakes, readaptations of Holmes and I've never found the character so precious that I didn't appreciate some of the wilder swings that have been taken. After all, my first Holmes was a bumbling buffoon.

For years after this, my picture of Sherlock Holmes was Michael Caine. In later childhood Sir John Gielgud (as Holmes) and Orson Welles (as Moriarty) would introduce me to a more faithful adaptation of the character, via an old radio show that my grandmother had on cassette.

When my friend and I got home that night, we didn't play jet pilots, like IRON EAGLE 2, we played Sherlock Holmes. I put on two ball caps (one faced forward, one backward to mimic Holmes' deerstalker) and my friend's dad's wool coat and we "investigated" all over the house with a magnifying glass.

A weird pairing to be sure, but I was just tickled because I was seven years old, and I got to see TWO movies!

Listening to the OVERHATED podcast (episode 147) where @crobertcargill.bsky.social and @weinberg.social talk 1988's WITHOUT A CLUE. I love this movie. It was my first childhood exposure to Sherlock Holmes, I saw it in a double feature with IRON EAGLE 2.

"It wasn't for me" is a long, long way from "worst halftime show, ever." We all watched the Black-Eyed Peas absolutely sh*t the bed in 2011 and Katy Perry's left-shark fiasco in 2015, right? Get a grip.
