Since Travis County launched the pilot six months ago, our Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program has treated over 350 victims of violence, including 15% related to gun violence. HVIPs help stop the cycle by supporting victims and preventing retaliatory violence.

This week the Commissioners Court celebrated Gideon Day, when 62 years ago the Supreme Court decided Gideon v. Wainwright. Though Texas &Travis County has still a long way to go, we're proud of the progress we've made. Thank you to all the county employees that make public defense possible.

On Monday I signed a Disaster Declaration that implemented a burn ban across Travis County due to severe wildfire risk and high winds in our area. This disaster declaration helps Travis County respond to a wildfire if needed. We ask that the public prepare and help minimize the risk of wildfire.
